Canada uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) tool to rank skilled candidates who wish to immigrate to Canada via the Express Entry. The CRS tool awards a score based on age, education, language skills and work experience and helps them calculate Canada PR points.
To Canada offers one of the most accessible and dynamic immigration programs in the world. There are over 100 different Canadian immigration paths for skilled workers, business people and families. This extensive page helps you explore which choices are right for you.
Each year, a new Immigration Levels Plan is released by the Federal Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to guide its operations. Canada will aim to accept new immigrants each year to sustain the country’s high standard of living.
How to calculate Canada PR points?
Points are allotted based on the following categories:
- Age (age group of 18 to 45)
- Education Level (for high school to a post-doctoral degree)
- Proficiency of Language (ranging from CLB5 to CLB10)
- Experience of work
The applicant is required to include proof of admissibility and funds to be eligible for Express Entry.
Under the comprehensive ranking system, points are calculated for all of the requirements mentioned above under the different federal programs. The points system varies for each group individually. Educational credentials under the Federal Trades Program are not required but can be a bonus. In the context of the Federal Skilled Trades Program, it will be appropriate to search the National Occupation List for the Skilled Trades Program.
Additional points may be obtained if the applicant is accompanied by a spouse or common in law partner.
How are CRS points divided category wise?
1. For schooling, language skills, age and job experience (core factors):
- Age – You have a chance of obtaining about 110 points if you are under the age bracket of 25-30.
- Educational Qualification – If you have a degree and diploma, the chances of points are 150.
- Language Efficiency – if you get an acceptable IELTS or CLB score, the points could be 160.
- The points could be up to 80 if you have previous work experience with Canada.
2. Factors for Common-law Partner or Spouse:
- If your spouse also has a good IELTS score equivalent to a CLB 9, you can add up to 20 points.
- So you can add about 20 points for his/her language skills and about 10 points for the partner’s academic qualifications.
- If your partner or spouse has any Canadian work experience, you should add about 10 points.
- Skill Transfer-ability Factors:
- You can add about 50 points if you have a foreign work experience along with a CLB 9
- Additional 50 points can be added, for education if you have a Post Graduation qualification along with a CLB 9
- Bonus Points
One may earn additional points for having a sibling in Canada with PR status or securing a letter of a job offer under NOC list O, A or B. Extra points can be achieved for nominations from the Canadian province for their PNP services.
