Ontario is a province in east-central Canada, the latest Express Entry draw was held on July 12, 2019, and was also its first tech draw. As the draw was conducted, the officials invited 1623 candidates to apply for provincial nomination.
Those with eligible work experience are now able to apply for permanent residence. The candidates in the Express Entry pool had earned a score ranging from 439 to 459.
It was also found that the individuals had created their profiles within a time span between July 12, 2018, and July 12, 2019.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) had taken the initiative to hold draws earlier in the month of July. The officials thought about the draws fulfilling the labour needs of the IT sector. As individuals are selected, the draw would aid organisations to recruit people from different regions of the world.
As major tech hubs are located in Toronto, the chances of getting better jobs seemed to be quite high.
According to the CBRE Group, the opportunities were more in Toronto than it was in the San Francisco Bay area. This trend was observed as the officials gathered data during 2017.
To qualify for the latest Express Entry draw invitation, candidates must have a profile under specific classes. These classes are nothing but the Canadian Experience Class and the Federal Worker Skilled Class. The Federal Express Entry System is primarily responsible for managing the classes stated above.
Regarding the CRS score, this score is assigned to every candidate in the pool. While calculating the score, many factors are taken into account. The profile is evaluated based on the person’s age, experience, education and language proficiency.
In case the candidate is nominated from the province, then he or she can score 600 more points. With a high score, the individual wouldn’t find it tough to become a permanent resident. He or she can receive an ITA in the draw that may be held subsequently.
While going through the CRS scores, it was observed that many individuals had scored 450 or more. However, to qualify for the further rounds this year, a person must have a minimum score. This score has to be anything between 438 and 470.
Once in the year 2019, the cut-off score for Federal Skilled Worker Class and Canadian Experience Class candidates had just been 439.
In the latest Express Entry draw- How is the Tech Draws conducted?
The OINP tech draws work quite differently than the other draws. As the Human Capital Priorities immigration stream conducts the draw, certain criteria have to be met. Moreover, the provincial program is allowed to go through the Federal Express Entry pool. This certainly helps to select eligible candidates based on many factors.
Above all, it’s not necessary for a person to have a job offer in case he is applying for the Human Capital Priorities Stream. But, it’s always better if the person has worked as a full-time professional for at least one year.
In case the person is pursuing a part time job, then the officials would ensure whether he or she is getting paid.
Moving ahead, the person should have a profile as the ones in specific NOC groups. These groups are NOC 2173, 2174, 2147, 2175, 2172, and 0213.
When the candidates are selected, they should be working as software developers, programmers, computer engineers or web designers. Besides, the person would also qualify for the rounds if he is a database analyst or is working as an Information systems manager.
When it’s time to choose eligible occupations, stakeholders are engaged through surveys and consultations. This helps to prioritize occupations in sync with the needs of the employers.
In the end, employers would revert with feedback on the current needs. They would also express their thoughts based on hiring practices.
Once the person receives a Notification of Interest, he has to submit an application. This application would then be forwarded to the provincial program.
The application is further processed as it’s checked according to the Ontario Immigration Act, 2015 and numerous regulations.
For an employer, the OINP offers support through the Business Immigration Service team. As the team member communicates with the employer, he updates him with the immigration pathways. The team also assists the employer when meetings have to be held. A dedicated staff later helps employers to get skilled workers in the fastest way.
The future of nominations
As months pass by, Ontario’s allocation for PNP would be on the rise. The admissions of permanent residents would continue to grow in 2020 and 2021.
On the whole, till 2020, it seems that Canada would be a place where many immigrants and families can settle.
According to David Cohen, Sr. Partner of Campbell, the tech draws would offer many opportunities for candidates.
While David is not aware of the future, he would be keeping an eye on how the tech draws are conducted. But, with the existing trend, it seems that Ontario is ready to invite candidates with a low CRS score.
As individuals settle in the province, they might dream about pursuing something exciting under the Human Capital Priorities stream.
About the Human Capital Category
Human Capital Category is one of the categories that come under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
This category constitutes two subcategories, Express Entry streams and international graduate streams.
Under the category of International Graduates, the person should have got a degree from one of the universities in Ontario. He can apply for the master’s graduate program or continue with higher studies only within a time span of two years. This time span is considered only when he has received the degree and has become a graduate.
But, in order to qualify for the Express Entry streams, the candidate must have a profile in the system of the Federal Government. In addition, he or she should also have received a Notification of Interest from the province.
With respect to Express entry streams, a person may come across many streams. These include the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream, Skilled Trades Stream and the Human Capital Priorities Stream.
